The Institut Kelautan Malaysia (IKMAL) is a maritime professional body for all those who are engaged in our associated with the maritime industry in Malaysia. IKMAL was established in 1985 with the objective of enhancing the development of the science and practice of the maritime profession as well as encouraging the pursuit of excellence in all spheres relating to the maritime industry.

Its activities include conducting maritime conferences, seminars and forums. IKMAL also publishes biannual Journal of Maritime Malaysia and provides advisory services to members and the industry on maritime matters. It also offers avenue for networking and liaison with government agencies and maritime organizations in and outside the country.

The membership includes master mariners, deck officers, marine engineers, radio officers, marine pilots, marine lecturers, marine surveyors, port and shipping executives, marine executives, maritime lawyers and other maritime professionals. Its corporate membership are shipping companies, port authorities, port and terminal operators, forwarding and logistics companies, marine engineering and services companies, maritime training institutions, maritime services and consultancy companies and other maritime based companies.
   


IKMAL Member Advantages

1. Under the royal patronage of the HRH the Sultan of Selangor, Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Sharafudin Idris Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahudin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj

2. As a non-profit organisation, IKMAL is managed by a Council elected from amongst its members. As such the Council Members have nothing to gain by becoming a member. All those who are at the post have the intention of only gearing forward for the improvement of the maritime profession.

3. Its not for any person who can join IKMAL. You do need to have certain qualifications before you are eligible to be a member. As such, it is a prestigious organisation.

4. Being a part of the team of improving the maritime profession to the next level.

5. Able to build a rapport with other members, not only locally but also internationally.

6. IKMAL has and is continuing discussions with other organisations to foster relationships (MOA), such as Universities, banks to further advance the maritime profession. As such, you as a member, will obtain first hand information of any business advancement in the maritime industry
