1 Promoting the general advancement of the maritime profession and to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas on related matters among its members and within the maritime industry
2 As a maritime professional body IKMAL maintains a comprehensive listing of its members and effectively contributes towards the growth of the maritime industry
3 IKMAL promotes and advances the interest of its members whether at home or abroad, through various activities
4 IKMAL continuously updates its members with current maritime matters via its journal, Maritime Malaysia, distributed free of charge
5 Conduct seminars, forums, dialogues and conferences where local and foreign experts deliver and discuss topics of interest and concern to the maritime industry
6 Maintains constant liaison with government authorities, regulatory and enforcement agencies and other relevant bodies having relations with the maritime profession both in Malaysia and abroad
7 IKMAL comprises the nucleus of the maritime profession and has the authority to endorse seminars and courses related to the maritime industry
8 IKMAL is managed by a council elected annually from amongst its membership. Council members serve on a purely voluntary basis and its composition normally reflects the various disciplines existing within the membership rolls
